Who you are dealing with

Assize Careers is a trading name of Assize Data Ltd, a private limited company registered in England and Wales, company number 17510115, registered office c/o IWN Accountancy, The Echo Building, 18 Albert Road, Bournemouth BH1 1BZ. When you subscribe, your contract is with that company and not with any other Assize brand.

Assize Data Ltd is not a law firm and is not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority or the Bar Standards Board. It does not carry out reserved legal activities for others, and it does not give legal advice.

Assize Careers is not a regulator, professional body, university, law school or official careers service, and it is not part of or endorsed by one. Nothing on this site is legal advice.

What this site is, and what it is not

It is a publication and a set of tools. The figures come from public registers and official statistics, the guides describe what published sources say about getting into the legal professions, and the practice material is written by us. None of it is legal advice, and none of it is careers advice from a regulated or accredited careers service.

Nothing here is a prediction about your application. Nothing here gives you an advantage with any employer, and we have no influence over anybody's recruitment decision. Training contracts, pupillages and apprenticeships are granted on merit, by the employer, at its own discretion. We publish data and build tools; we do not sell access, and we do not claim a success rate, because nobody has measured one.

Where a source does not say something, the page says so. That is deliberate, and it is the main thing that makes this site different from the free material funded by the employers it would otherwise have to measure.

You need to be 18 to buy a subscription

The free plan is open to anyone who can hold an email account. The paid plans are sold only to people aged 18 or over, because a contract with a 16- or 17-year-old is not reliably enforceable and we would rather not sell one. If you are under 18 and want a paid plan, a parent or guardian subscribes in their own name and pays, and the contract is with them.

We do not profile anybody on this site, we collect no location data, we run no advertising, and marketing email is off until you turn it on. The privacy notice sets out everything we hold.

Your account

There is no password. You give an email address, we send a single-use link that expires in 20 minutes, and following it signs you in for up to 30 days. That means your email account is the key to your Assize Careers account: keep it secure, and tell us if you think someone else has had access to it.

An account is for one person. You may not share a sign-in, resell access, or let an organisation use one subscription for a group — if you want to buy for a class or a careers service, email enquiries@assizedata.co.uk and we will tell you honestly whether we can do it yet.

Subscriptions, in one line each

The free plan is free and needs no card. The paid plans cost £7.95, £16.95 and £25.95 a month, a year costs ten months paid up front, there is no minimum term on a monthly plan, and you cancel online from your account page. Everything else about the money — the pre-contract information, the renewal reminders, the 14-day cancellation right, failed payments and what happens to your data when you stop — is on subscriptions and cancellation, which forms part of these terms.

What we promise about the service

If you pay for a digital service, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives you rights that cannot be excluded: it must be of satisfactory quality, fit for the purpose we describe, and as described. Those rights sit on top of anything we say here, and nothing in these terms limits them.

So, concretely. The figures are refreshed hourly from our own warehouse, every figure carries the date it describes, and the sources block on each page of figures says when the refresh last ran. If that pipeline stalls, you see the last figure we confirmed and when we confirmed it, rather than a stale number pretending to be this hour’s. If something we describe as working does not work, tell us and we will fix it or refund you; if we cannot, you can cancel.

What we do not promise is that the site is complete, or that a register we copy a figure from was right on the day it was published. We check what we publish and we correct it when it is wrong, and we say that we have.

Practice material

Our practice questions are written by us in the published formats. They are not the test publishers' own questions, we do not reproduce any publisher's items or convert your result into their scores or percentiles, and Assize Careers is not affiliated with, authorised by or endorsed by any test publisher, assessment provider, regulator or law firm.

We publish no pass rate and no score improvement, for ours or anyone else’s material, because nobody has measured one. A practice question tells you whether you got that question right. That is all it can tell you, and it is still worth doing.

What you may do with the material here

Our own material — the guides, the practice questions, the model answers, the templates, the analysis and this site’s design — belongs to Assize Data Ltd. While your subscription is running you may read it, print it and use it for your own applications and your own study, including putting a template to work on your own CV.

You may not, without our written permission:

  • republish, resell, share or teach from our material, or put it in a course or a bundle
  • copy the practice questions or the model answers into another product, a revision pack or a forum
  • crawl, scrape or systematically download any part of this site, or extract the tables behind it into a database of your own
  • use any part of the site to train a machine learning model

The data is a separate question. Some of the figures come from sources under the Open Government Licence, which you may reuse yourself on that licence’s terms; others come from registers published under each regulator’s own terms, which do not allow republication. The sources page says which is which, every data export carries the licence on every row, and you are bound by those licences rather than by ours when you reuse that material.

Using the site properly

You must not:

  • try to get at another subscriber’s account, data or saved work
  • probe, overload or attack the site, or get round the paywall or the sign-in
  • paste another person’s personal data into the CV checker or the tracker. Put your own CV in it, not a friend’s, and not a candidate’s
  • use the employer data to send unsolicited marketing to anyone on a register

If you do any of that we may suspend or close the account, and we will refund the unused part of what you have paid. To report a security problem, use the company’s security page.

Changes to the site and to these terms

The site changes: features are added, a feature in preparation may be dropped, and a source may stop publishing something we rely on. If we remove something you are paying for and do not replace it, you can cancel and we will refund the part of the period you have paid for and not had.

We may change these terms. If a change matters to a subscriber — the price, what a plan includes, or how to cancel — we will email you before it takes effect, and you can cancel before it does. The review date under the heading above shows when this page last changed.

Our liability

Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for compensation under data protection law, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law, including our liability under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Beyond that: we are not liable for a decision you take after reading this site. We do not make recruitment or admissions decisions and we have no influence over the people who do. If we are liable to you for something else, our liability is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the problem arose, and in any event to not less than £500, except where the law does not allow that limit.

If you use the site for business purposes — as a careers adviser, say — we are not liable for loss of profit, revenue, business, goodwill or anticipated savings, or for indirect or consequential loss.

If something goes wrong

Email enquiries@assizedata.co.uk first. We answer in two working days. If that does not settle it, the company’s complaints procedure is the next step and sets out the timescales.

We are not a member of an alternative dispute resolution scheme, and no ombudsman covers this kind of subscription. We say so because the Consumer Contracts Regulations require us to tell you what out-of-court redress is available before you buy, and the honest answer is none beyond our own complaints procedure and the courts.

Law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute about them. If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in the courts there.
